Four Villages in Opol Under State of Calamity Due to NPA
Four villages in Opol, Misamis Oriental were placed under a state of calamity due to the reported ongoing recruitment of residents into the New People’s Army (NPA).
Opol Mayor Maximo Seno said the local government issued the declaration on Tuesday.
Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, spokesman of the Northern Mindanao police, said the areas placed under state of calamity were barangays Tingalan, Cauyunan, Limonda and Nangcaon.
The mayor said a total of 107 families or 449 people from the four villages have been evacuated to the town’s central evacuation center.
He said that the residents in the four villages were being paid by suspected NPA members to join the communist movement.
