Biodegradable Lukay Straw Instead of Plastic Straw
Aside from Bamboo straw and Papaya straw, Lukay straw is one of the best alternative also for the plastic straws.
January 1, 2019, the city of Cagayan de Oro announced the plastic ban and they began distributing notices to the city’s business establishments, sellers and consumers regarding the regulation on the use of plastic bags. The regulation is in accordance with Article IX, Section 30 of City Ordinance No. 13378-2018 or the “Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance of Cagayan de Oro City”.
This means that stores and vendors are not allowed to use plastics to wrap purchased goods or items. Consumers are also advised to bring “eco-bags,” paper bags, or reusable bags or containers when buying on all markets and grocery stores.
However, there are still other forms of plastic that will be allowed by the local government. The city government will also allow plastics that are “recyclable and reusable” as alternative packaging material.
But until now there are restaurants, hotels, food chains, and some coffee shops are still using plastic straws wherein we can change that straw into some biodegradable materials. Some of the alternatives are the lukay straw wherein it is now viral in youtube. This Kagay-anon show some tutorial on how to create a Lukay Straw and challenge the establishments like restaurants, hotels, food chains, and some coffee shops to use this kind of alternative in replacement of the plastic straw.
