A choir from Russia won a gold medal, a silver medal, and a bronze medal while a children’s chorale from South Korea won bronze. A total of 20 children’s choral groups from all over the world joined the international competition. Cagayan de Oro’s CCS Children’s Choir was the only one that came from the Philippines.
The CCS children’s choir is composed of grade school pupils and high school students from the school’s Pueblo campus. They are under the baton of Mr. Paul Tiburtius F. Salipong, music teacher of the school. Ma. Theresa L. Pakino is the choir’s choreographer and drillmaster. The head of the Cagayan de Oro delegation is Ofelia L. Dulay, Assistant Principal of the CCS
For the competition, the choir sang the well-loved Filipino folk songs “Paruparong Bukid” and “Pinpin de Sarapin”. In other related occasions during the festival, the choir sang a Filipino folk song “Osoy Osoy”, the “Circle of Life” from the popular Disney movie The Lion King, and a Mandarin folk song, “Ai Hai Yo”.
The Corpus Christi School Children’s Choir was organized in 2014. Its first foray into choir competitions was in December 2014 during the annual Bangga sa Daygon of the city government of Cagayan de Oro where the chorale placed second. In 2015, 2016 and 2017, the choir received the first place in the same Christmas caroling contest for elementary school chorales. It is also a finalist in the Manila Broadcasting Company’s choir competition and the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA).
The CCS Children’s Choir, also known as The Falsettos, aims to cultivate the talents of children, instill in them the values of unity, commitment and determination.
