Dr. Raul Jara, Cardiologist, Philippine Heart Center – Dr. Raul Jara passed away on March 24, 2020.
Known as a “great pillar” of Philippine cardiology, Dr. Jara was an esteemed cardiologist and internist who also served as president of the Philippine Heart Association (PHA).
In a message released by the PHA, it said Dr. Jara was a “great father, teacher, mentor, author, singer, colleague and friend.”
“One who has spent his life teaching. One who never got tired to impart knowledge and wisdom… Rest in peace, Dr. Jara, as we remember you in our hearts and the teachings you have imparted to us. We deeply mourn for your loss but we want this more to be a celebration of your life. Philippine Cardiology will not be the same without you,” the PHA wrote.
Dr. Rose Pulido, Oncologist, San Juan De Dios Hospital – Dr. Rose Pulido passed away on March 21, 2020.
She was also a frontline who served as a medical oncologist in San Juan de Dios Hospital.
Dr. Israel Bactol, Cardiologist, Philippine Heart Center – Dr. Israel Bactol passed away on March 21, 2020.
Regarded as a “young, brilliant and promising,” Dr. Bactol served as a cardiologist in the Philippine Heart Center. In a statement released by the PHA on Saturday, it said Bactol died “while fulfilling his duties as a doctor.”
“It is a sad day for the whole association as we have lost one of our own in the fight against COVID. He is a casualty of this war. We honor him as he lost his young life while fulfilling his duties as a doctor, a young cardiologist and a dedicated member of PHA,” the association said in a statement.
Dr. Greg Macasaet, Anaesthesiologist, Manila Doctors Hospital – Dr. Greg Macasaet passed away on March 22, 2020, due to COVID-19.
Dr. Macasaet served as an anesthesiologist in Manila Doctors Hospital. He was a frontline who treated a patient that eventually died due to COVID-19. Manila Doctors Hospital said Dr. Greg was “one of the best anesthesiologists in our country”.
Macasaet left behind his wife, an anesthesiologist who has also reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, and their son.
Dr. Marcelo Jaochico, Pampanga Health Officer, Former Doctor to the barrios – Dr. Marcelo Jaochico passed away on March 24, 2020, due to COVID-19.
Dr. Marcelo served as the provincial health officer of Pampanga. He was also a former doctor to the barrios.
In a social media post, his daughter Cielo said, “Please do not remember him as someone who just died because of COVID-19. Sobrang dami niyang ginawa para sa bayan.”
Former patients from communities he served have shared heartfelt messages about Dr. Jauchico.
We send our sympathies and prayers to their families and loved ones.
Let us continue praying for other front-liners who tested positive and are currently in quarantine, especially those in critical condition.
The 9th doctors who just passed away today are Dr. Sally Gatchalian after battling with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Gatchalian also serves as assistant director at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).
