Cagayan de Oro City, led by Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy, has secured its place as one of the ‘Top 7 Most Competitive Highly Urbanized Cities’ in the 2023 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI). This prestigious ranking reflects the city’s relentless commitment to progress and development.
The CMCI evaluates municipalities and cities across the Philippines on five key pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation. Cagayan de Oro City has showcased remarkable performance in multiple areas, further solidifying its status as a hub of competitiveness.
In the Resiliency pillar, Cagayan de Oro City soared to an impressive second place (Top 2), demonstrating its resilience in the face of challenges and its proactive approach to disaster preparedness and recovery. This accomplishment underscores the city’s dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
The city also shone in the Innovation pillar, securing the fifth spot (Top 5). This recognition highlights Cagayan de Oro City’s efforts to foster creativity, entrepreneurship, and forward-thinking solutions to address contemporary issues.
Additionally, Cagayan de Oro City ranked eighth (Top 8) in the Infrastructure pillar, reflecting its commitment to maintaining and expanding essential infrastructure to support economic growth and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

The CMCI, an annual assessment of Philippine cities and municipalities, is developed by the National Competitiveness Council in collaboration with Regional Competitiveness Committees (RCCs) and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development.
