Cagayan de Oro based documentary director won an award in UP last Jan.11,2014.
Congrats!!! “Dire Husi” by Nef Luczon, an entry to the P.O.V. (Piling Obra Vidyo), was an annual short film competition open to college students nationwide. The short film competition was founded in 2003 by student film organization UP Cinema, and is now on its tenth year.
Nef Luczon who direct the “Dire Husi” is from Mindanao University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T) who won Best Documentary. The film, its story behind and the direction was good.
The story tells a traveling artist meets indigenous tribes, teaches them about art, crafts, and music, and how they can used it as a vehicle to make themselves more visible to the rest of the country.
The collective he creates is called ‘Dire Husi’, whose meaning ‘Here, My Friend’, only appears at the end of the film, to our applause. The time-lapse scene with the mime artist in the mall is genius. Also, the music! I’d love an album of indigenous songs, and if possible, its translation. You can check the trailer of his documentary below.
