Not Enough Rehab Centers in Cagayan de Oro
After thousands of self-confessed drug users surrendered to authorities in anticipation of the Duterte administration’s massive anti-drug campaign, local authorities here fear that there won’t be enough facilities to house them and undertake their rehabilitation.
“We are afraid that we cannot accommodate them all,” said an official at the Caraga Regional Rehabilitation Center (CRRC), who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to issue any statement to media.
CRRC is the only government-owned drug treatment and rehabilitation center (TRC) in the region, which is composed of four provinces and six cities, and can only accommodate 100 patients.
This was the same concern in Cagayan de Oro City after officials of the government-owned TRC.
“These surrenderees are drug addicts, so it follows that they are candidates for rehabilitation,” the CRRC official added.
